Location
Rightly, The Royal Hawaiian takes pride of place at the center of Waikiki Beach. Being only the second hotel to be built on the beach, the builders had carte blanche when coming to select their location and they chose well.
Although, now surrounded by modern high-rise hotels, the hotel still stands proud elegant and eternal, a celebrated landmark.

| Description |
Built in 1927 by the Matson Navigation Company to accommodate the passengers
from the luxurious cruise liners, it was soon to play host to presidents, celebrities, tycoons and royalty. Built before the advent of air conditioning the architect designed the building to harness the cooling trade breezes and manipulate the natural light to great effect.
They then surrounded the building with coconut groves, monkey nut trees and tropical plants to help keep it cool and shaded and then almost with a splendid sense of irony painted the façade in a lavish pink. The hotel has now been dubbed 'The Pink Palace of the Pacific'.
The public rooms have high ceilings joined by corridors open to the elements and the dominant interior colors are pink, magenta and dark green. It should be noted that very few rooms in the Historic building have lanais (balconies); however, in 1969 the current owners added the 16-storey Royal Tower, each room with private lanai.
Across the lawns and almost right on the beach is The Royal Hawaiian's famous Mai Tai Bar, one of the best locations you will find to enjoy the famous Hawaiian sunsets as you sip your favorite tropical cocktail and listen to the surf, the whispering palms and soft Hawaiian music.
